A couple of things that I really like.

Workwear. A love of the archetypical bleu de travail has spiralled into a passion for workwear in general, with my interests mainly piqued by heritage brands of French origin. Favourites include Danton and Vetra, though my trusty Le Laboureur remains my favourite blue jacket. These things last forever. Arpenteur, my favourite contemporary brand were the subject of an article by Esquire this week. Workwear is something that I am increasingly excited about, and I am eagerly learning more of, especially during lockdown. One of the key players in this odyssey has been Avant magazine, a periodical that aims to examine the culture and history of workwear and vintage clothing.

Ray and Charles Eames. Furniture has become a massive part of my life over the past couple of years, and the Eames’ are a source of continued amazement. Their California home is a labrynth of incredible design and paraphernalia, and has become something of an inspiration for my own personal home archive, which collects the odd objects which have been picked up during my travels.

Animal Crossing. I know, I know, it’s everywhere, but I can genuinely lay claim to being an early adopter of Animal Crossing. I imported the Game Cube version of the original game from Australia back in 2003, when it didn’t look likely that it would reach the UK and have been a fan ever since. It’s difficult to explain the appeal of the concept, but my own approach to the game is quite laid back, which is perhaps a tonic to how I approach every other area of my life.

Monocle Magazine and Sight & Sound. I love magazines and magazine culture, and stocked up on a bunch of more unusual titles before lockdown. When it came to sourcing the latest issues of perennial favourites like Monocle and Sight & Sound though I had a real task on my hands. I should probably just subscribe.

Fancy socks. Another small item of luxury that I’ve come to rely on in these unusual times. RoToTo are my favourite. Can often be seen paired with the Birkenstock Bostons in my house. Hey, don’t knock it ’til you’ve tried it.

Kanye West. Specifically this photo of Kanye West from a recent GQ photoshoot, in which he can be seen sporting Birkenstock Bostons.

The Last Dance and Beastie Boys Story. I’m not much of a nostalgist, but Netflix’s The Last Dance really takes me back to the brief time in the 1990s that I actually seriously cared about sport. It’s a fascinating series. Similarly Spike Jonze’s Beastie Boys Story served to remind me of just how much that particular band has meant to me over the years. It’s moving, without being schmaltzy, and inspiring to boot.

Coffee. I’m passionate about coffee. I’m not much of a boozer these days, so coffee shops form the backbone of any trip I take. My wife and I have been making lockdown run a little more enjoyable by ordering coffee in from some of our favourite places.

My dog. Companions don’t come any better. He’s also come in handy since my bike was stolen: our poor Boston Terrier has become my main source of exercise.
